Short Shorts

March 10, 2009 Scriptwriting 0

I see that the Film Board have announced the genre and the deadline for this year’s short shorts scheme.

The genre chosen for 2009 is FILMS WITH NO DIALOGUE. This does not mean silent films, but rather where the soundtrack can contain anything except audible dialogue. The Mr Bean television series and related feature film is a good example of this type of genre.
The deadline for applications is Friday, 8th May 2009.

I have been meaning to enter this scheme for a while but have never gotten around to it. Back when I wrote ‘My Ball’ I set myself a brief.

  • Keep cast to a minimum
  • One location.
  • Outdoors
  • No live dialogue.
  • I wrote several other “short shorts” but My Ball was the one that stood out.

The brief from IFB is not all that different to what I used for My Ball, although I don’t think they are allowing voice over’s to be used.
I’m sure I was considering entering My Ball at one stage but decided not to as I knew I could shoot it myself for nothing.

So there is another short to think about for the coming weeks.
