Gemma? Trailer

“Gemma?” Complete

“Gemma?” was handed over in person by the executive producer to meet the deadline for Fastnet Film Festival yesterday.

What a super fast turnaround, I only decided I’d make it after receiving an email from Fastnet saying they had extended the deadline by a month on the 24th of February.

Heres a quick timeline of events

24th Feb: I made a few calls and sent a few emails, luckily Donogh MacCarthy-Morrogh liked the script and Stormlight would produce it.

Brian Fortune was cast in the lead role.

4th of March: Donogh met with Amanda Ferriter and she came on board as producer.

Amanda crews up

13th of March: I met with Amanda for the first time. The remainder of the cast were eh cast. Looked at some locations and finalised them.

Had issues with one location as couldn’t shoot in Park during the weekends. Alternative found.

20/21 March: Production begins.
22 March: Kevin Dwane and I begin edit
24 March: Picture lock
25 March: Picture grade and sound design begin
29 March: Conor Barron delivers sound design, Okayed and sent to UK for mastering.
30 March: Receive master and put all together. Result! Few technical issues mean we don’t make the evenings post.
31 March: Donogh delivers to Schull

Just goes to prove if you set deadlines and stick to them what you can achieve.

Big thank you to everyone involved, it was a pleasure to work with you all.

Shooting starts Saturday

The two day shoot for “Gemma?” starts on Saturday. Everything has come together really well these past few weeks.

All crewed up and cast and locations sorted, or well we thought we had locations sorted until we were told we can’t film in Fitzgearld Park on Saturday or Sunday. That’s not very good when we can only shoot on Saturday and Sunday.

Pre-Productions Begins on “Gemma?”

and we shoot in two weeks!

It is being Produced by Stormlight

New Short

News: My next short will be going into pre-production very shortly. Watch this pace!

Fastnet Short Film Festival

What a great festival it was down in Schull. I arrived down on Thursday afternoon so missed most of the screenings on the first day. When I checked into my accommodation I was pleasantly pleased to find I was right next door to Screen 2. Handy!

The first screening of My Ball was at 19:30 in screen two so I decided I go to the Cocktail launch reception at six then pop next door to watch the screening after.

I was a bit disappointed with the crowd at the screening, I counted about 10. Never the less I was happy to see my film on the big screen even if it had been cropped to 4:3.

The second screening was on the following night at 18:15 and the crowd was up a bit from the pervious night, it even got a round of applause but that maybe more to do with the fact that Pavel and Paddy were in the audience who I had a few beers with the night before.

The short listed films were announced Friday night after very enjoyable Audience with Jim Sheridan but unfortunately My Ball failed to make it.

Like her father the audience with Kirsten Sheridan was equally enjoyable Saturday night as was the Team D.A.D.D.Y talk earlier in the day.

The awards ceremony took place Sunday evening and I was delighted to see Paddy O’Shea take home the Best Drama award for his wonderful “Penny”.

Afterwards I was talking to Chris O’Dell the chairman of the festival about taking home the poster they had of My Ball on the wall as you enter screen 2.

As Chris was taking the poster down a few other committee members came over and said how much Chris liked My Ball and had he had his way it would have been short listed. Even if that was bull shit, it was a nice thing to hear.

I’m already counting down the days to next year!

My Ball for West Cork Festival

After Wales, England, Australia and South Africa finally I can add Ireland to the list. One of my films will be screened at an Irish festival.

My Ball has been selected for the inaugural Corona Short Film Festival 2009 down in Schull, which is extra good as it means it is screening in my native West Cork but which is bad because it’s at the other end of West Cork!

Great that it will be screened in front of an Irish audience and that I might finally be able to attend.

My Ball on IMDb

I’ve made! I’ve finally arrived! I’m on IMDb, I’m a true filmmakers at
last! Or am I?

Over the past few years I’ve seen people with IMDb pages, you know people
that have made crappy little shorts and often thought “How the hell did
they get that, they must have created that themselves. How sad.”

However before Christmas I received an email in my inbox from the good
people at IMDb telling me how My Ball had qualified for inclusion on their
site, although more than likely it wasn’t a real person that sent it, it
was probably a bot.

I said to myself “No, I’m not going to create a page, not myself anyway.
If I ever get listed on that site I want some other person to do it, I’m
not going to be some sado that creates a page about themselves and go, “oh
I’m on IMDb, I’m great”. Where is the achievement in that?”

However, after about five or six more emails from that kind bot my
publicist Don Goode said, “Kev, just do it.”

So I clicked on the link and by fuck is it complicated. So I started to
fill in the information and I got to the names of the people involved. So
I put in my name. The name Kevin O’Neill already exists. So did Kevin
O’Neill (II), (III), (IV), etc. However Kevin O’Neill (XVI) was available.
Hurray! Wait a minute, I don’t want to be Kevin O’Neill the fucking
sixteenth.

Why did I have to have such common names like Kevin and O’Neill? Why
couldn’t I have a name that no one else has such as Sean Wallace and
Seamus Hegarty? I had to think about this. Maybe I would have to change my
name. After all this was my IMDb listing!

I left it without finishing it. But after another few emails I decided I
would finally put it right a few weeks ago and so I did, I completed all
the forms and hit submit.

I decided I’d go with Kevin A. O’Neill, afterall thats what I use for most things after I decided a few years back I wanted a universal log in for most of the websites I use, so now my gmail, youtube, myspace, icewhole etc have kevinaoneill as the log in. Problem Sorted!

It became live about a week ago but only today has most of the information
come on. However at some point while I was filling in the information my
ego must have split. Because the writer/director part of me is known as
Kevin A. O’Neill while the producer/editor part is happy with Kevin
O’Neill the sixteenth.

While Sean and Seamus can rest easy as no one else shares the same name as
them, Eoin will have to make do with Eoin Murphy the third as there
appears to be two more Eoin Murphy’s that exist.

So there we are, on IMDb. How cool are we!

Now that I’m a famous IMDb listed award winning filmmaker I will no longer
be personally responding to emails. From now on all enquiries should be
emailed to dongoode AT savaege DOT com
